TUFTS MEDICAL CENTER

Research Intern (Jun-Aug 2021)

Analyzed the proteomic differences in patients with cardiomyopathy before and after ECMO and Impella implantation. Constructed Linear and Polynomial regression models that predict heart failure severity with R2 value of >90% based on 20+ hemodynamic attributes. Used recursive feature elimination and interpretability techniques (XGBoost, SHAP, and Skater) to find the most significant features in predicting heart failure severity. Based on machine learning analysis, determined that preemptive Ecpella treatments are more effective compared to bailout Ecpella treatments. Utilized Python (Numpy, Scikit-Learn, Matplotlib, SHAP) and experimented with C/C++ (mlpack, OpenCV, Shogun). Advisers: Dr. Kay Everett, Dr. Lija Swain, and Dr. Navin Kapur.

Purdue Computer Science

Independent Researcher (Aug 2020-May 2021)

Conducted market research with 15 clinicians to develop a GUI using Tkinter that displays which stage of PC a patient is in based on biomarkers in the blood. First model in literature to achieve a PC diagnostic accuracy of >90%. Built an ensemble algorithm using Logistic regression, Naive Bayes, and Neural Network models to diagnose PC and distinguish between early and late stages. Working with Stanford Medicine to implement this model clinically. Used feature selection and interpretation to find miRNAs most differentially expressed in early and late-stage pancreatic cancer. Utilized Python (Tkinter, Tensorflow, XGBoost, Keras) and experimented with HTML/CSS (Bootstrap, Animate, Semantic). Adviser: Dr. Jean Honorio.

University of Michigan

Independent Researcher (Jun 2018-May 2022)

Found proteins that were differentially expressed as a result of COVID-19, opioid addiction, and mental health disorders (such as anxiety and depression). Generated a tool that links genes with their target miRNA. Received 1000+ views on tutorials released on the tool. Utilized R (tidyverse, ggplot2), Linux (cutadapt, bowtie, samtools), and bioinformatics tools (GEO2R, string-db, pharmGKB, GeneCards). Adviser: Dr. Inhan Lee.
